Senate by-election: polling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to begin shortly

PESHAWAR: Polling for the by-election to fill the vacant Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is being held today at the Jirga Hall of the Provincial Assembly.
According to the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), voting will begin at 9:00 AM and will continue until 4:00 PM. Mobile phones have been prohibited inside the Jirga Hall for members of the Assembly, as per the Commission’s directive. The vacant seat in concern was vacated by Sania Nishtar.
Five women are contesting the by-election for the vacated women’s seat. Sobia Shahid is representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while Shazia is the candidate from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). Three candidates, Saima Khalid, Mashal Azam, and Mehtab Zafar, are contesting as independents. Mashal Azam is affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) but is participating in the election as an independent candidate.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah have arrived at the Provincial Assembly for the polling process.
