Shehryar Afridi re-arrested from outside Adiala jail

ISLAMABAD: Police on Thursday took Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Khan Afridi into into custody soon after he was released from Adiala Jail.
Afridi was released from Adiala jail after the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench granted him bail declaring his detention illegal.
Talking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Shehryar Afridi’s lawyer Chaudhry Ishtiaq said that the police arrested him again right after he was released from jail, and he was not allowed to speak.
The PTI leader was arrested in connection with May 9 riots.
Earlier, the LHC Rawalpindi bench ordered the immediate release of Shehryar Afridi, Farrukh Afridi, Nadia Hussain and Shah Jahan.
LHC judge Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu declared the deputy commissioner’s order for the 15-day detention of the PTI leaders as unconstitutional and illegal.
The court stressed that it will not tolerate any unlawful actions taken against individuals.
Shehryar Afridi was taken into custody on May 16 from his residence in Islamabad under the Maintenance of Public Order.
