Sibi by-election: candidate announces boycott mid-polling

SIBI: Mir Asghar Khan Marri, the candidate who got the second-highest votes in the last general elections, has announced his boycott of the elections.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Sardar Kohyar Domki is contesting against the independent candidate Mir Asghar Marri.
“The entire state machinery is trying to win the candidate of a party, in these circumstances there is no other way except boycott,” alleged Marri.
The by-elections in for PB-8 constituency of Sibi in Balochistan are underway. As per the rules of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), polling for the provincial assembly seat will continue till 5 PM.
The seat fell vacant due to the death of PPP’s Provincial Assembly member Sarfraz Domki.
Police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed at Sibi on the highly sensitive polling stations. CCTV monitoring these polling stations is also being done to ensure security during bye-elections.
Mobile signals in and around Sibi have also been turned off since last night, causing significant disruptions for the denizens of the area.
