LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Sirajul Haq announced a planned sit-in protest outside Karachi’s Governor House on October 6.

Siraj ul Haq, while talking to the media, emphasised the importance of elections as the means to achieve political stability, asserting that those discussing economic improvements are scared of electoral defeat.

“The Election Commission should provide the date for the elections, and the elections should be fair  and transparent,” he added.

Furthermore, Siraj ul Haq criticised the caretaker government, asserting that it lacks the authority to make policy decisions and is prioritising the interests of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the welfare of the nation.

“Bombardment of different types of taxes imposed on electricity bills is not fair, the caretaker government should reevaluate the terms of IMF agreements,” he said.

Earlier, Sirajul Haq had said he would choose “democratic and peaceful resistance” if elections were delayed.
