LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq has urged for greater transparency in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) agreements, demanding to make the details accessible to the public.

While addressing the participants of an ongoing sit-in protest in front of the Governor House in Lahore, Sirajul Haq expressed concern over the political hegemony of a few families in Punjab. He called on the people of Punjab to rise against mafia.

Meanwhile, he criticised previous regimes, stating that they had been detrimental to the nation, and accused past rulers of sacrificing the interests of the public to appease the IMF.

Furthermore, Sirajul Haq highlighted the burden posed by the country’s elite and the economic hardships faced by the poor. He called for the withdrawal of recent increases in electricity, petrol, and gas prices and urged measures to make essential food items more affordable for the general population.

Sirajul Haq on Thursday announced a three-day peaceful sit-in outside the Governor’s House in Lahore against rising inflation, increased petroleum prices, and soaring electricity bills.

The announcement was made during his address on the third day of a similar sit-in held outside the Governor’s House, where party activists from the northern regions gathered in significant numbers.
