“Supreme Court decides party entitlement to reserved seats, not individuals”

ECP has been directed to obtain written declarations of PTI members in the parliament
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court dismissed the petition by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Women’s Wing President Kanwal Shuzab as ‘unnecessary’, saying that “the Supreme Court decides which party gets how many reserved seats, not which individuals do”.
The persons nominated by the political parties on these seats do not have individual right, the detailed judgement on reserved seats verdict said.
SC announces detailed verdict on reserved seats case
The judgement also said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially declared that 39 out of 80 independent National Assembly (MNAs) as PTI members. The ruling has also directed the ECP that the status of the remaining 41 PTI’s MNAs also be confirmed through written declarations.
The ECP has been instructed to get these MNAs to submit signed statements within 15 days to clarify their allegiance.
In addition, the ECP has been ordered to notify PTI candidates for reserved seats.
