UK envoy meets Mohsin, Maryam

LAHORE: Newly appointed British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott met with Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz separately, here on Friday.

During meeting with Chief Minister, matters related to increasing cooperation in various fields between the government of Punjab and the United Kingdom came under discussion.

The two also spoke about Jaranwala tragedy and discussed the strategy to prevent such incidents in the future.

Naqvi informed the High Commissioner of the measures taken by the Punjab government, which included arrest of the main accused and announcement of Rs. two million financial assistance per person for the victims.

The High Commissioner appreciated timely and positive role of the Punjab government on the Jaranwala tragedy.

Caretaker CM also expressed good wishes for the High Commissioner on being appointed as High Commissioner to Pakistan.

Later, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz also welcomed High Commissioner Jane Marriott at Jati Umrah for a one-to-one meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest.
