The US does not want to interfere in Pakistan's internal affairs

WASHINGTON: The United Stated (US) State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller on Wednesday said that the formation of Pakistan’s new government remains an internal matter and that the US will not intervene in the country’s domestic affairs.

The State Department spokesperson reiterated this stance during a press briefing to a question regarding the alleged electoral irregularities in Pakistan’s 2024 general election held on February 8.

Miller said that the US has “made it clear [it] want[s] to see any claims of irregularities to be investigated”.

These statements come amidst discussions regarding the US stance on Pakistan’s electoral process and its integrity during the 2024 general election.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in a recent briefing stated that they “were unaware of any bilateral messages post-election” exchanged between the two countries.

Earlier, during a press briefing on February 13, Miller expressed concerns regarding alleged irregularities and fraud in the recent election.

“We expressed those concerns privately and publicly. The United States, along with the [European Union], [United Kingdom], and other countries, called on the Pakistani government to respect the will of the electorate”, Miller said.
