KU holds protest rally against Indian aggression, threats to suspend Indus Waters Treaty


KARACHI: The University of Karachi organized a powerful protest rally against Indian aggression, irresponsible actions, and threats to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty on Monday.

The rally was led by the KU’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and attended by the faculty members, students and non-teaching employees saw a massive turnout against Indian aggression.

The rally started from the KU’s administrative building and concluded at Azadi Chowk. During the protest, the participants carried banners and placards condemning India’s aggressive stance, denouncing the potential suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and expressing solidarity with Pakistan. Chants such as ‘Pakistan Zindabad,’ ‘India, Back Off,’ and ‘Long Live the Pakistan Army’ were echoed throughout the rally.

Speaking to the media, the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi emphasized that India’s actions pose a serious threat not only to Pakistan but to regional peace and stability as a whole. He reiterated that the Indus Waters Treaty is an internationally recognized agreement, and India cannot unilaterally suspend it.

He warned that such moves blatantly violate international laws and fuel tensions in the region. He urged the global community to take notice of India’s provocative actions and contribute to sustainable peace in South Asia.

He encouraged students to harness their knowledge, unity, and patriotism for the nation’s security and progress while actively promoting messages of national solidarity. He asserted that the Pakistani nation does not bow to threats but stands firm on principles.

“Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty is a calculated attempt to endanger Pakistan’s agriculture, economy, and livelihoods. Such reckless behavior could push South Asia toward a new conflict. However, Pakistan remains united, and alongside its armed forces, it is prepared to counter any hostile plans.”

He highlighted the country’s strong defense capabilities and expressed pride in the professionalism and global reputation of Pakistan’s military. A significant number of female faculty members also took part in the rally, chanting slogans in support of the Pakistan Army. Participants vowed to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, stating that the entire nation stands united against Indian aggression.
