Pakistani team wins National Robotics competition; advances to World Stage

National Robotics competition

Breaking new ground in the realm of technology and innovation, a Pakistani team has achieved a significant milestone by qualifying for the prestigious self-driving car competition organised by the World Robot Olympiad (WRO).

The team consisting of Ayaan Waqar, Zarar Haroon and Zain Haroon, from Aitchison College, has won the national level of the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) in the Future Engineers category! This incredible achievement will enable them to proudly represent Pakistan at the international finals in Turkey in November.

The competition was intense and required to design, build, and program a self-driving car capable of navigating a complex, ever-changing course. The vehicle performed exceptionally well, showcasing the team’s skill in computer vision, sensor fusion, and autonomous driving. The team is excited to take on the world stage and demonstrate the innovative spirit of Pakistani youth.

The World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) is a prestigious global competition that brings together over 85 countries and thousands of participants to engage in STEM through innovative challenges. In the Future Engineers category, teams focus on real-world engineering processes, including designing, programming, and documenting their robotic solutions on platforms like GitHub.

Self-driving cars represent the future of transportation, promising to revolutionize how we travel by improving safety, efficiency, and accessibility. Participating in this challenge has given the students valuable insights into the technologies driving this innovation.

By working on these projects, Pakistan is preparing for future careers in engineering and technology and at the same time contributing to the advancements that will shape the world. This experience highlights the importance of STEM education in equipping the youth with the skills needed to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

Ayaan Waqar and Zarar Haroon have also been recently awarded the best Young Innovators Award NSIT 2024 for their tech based holistic solution for Livestock Farming in Pakistan.
