50th PCB Podcast: Shaheen Afridi’s cricket journey, T20 World Cup ambitions

LAHORE: Shaheen Afridi was featured on the 50th edition of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Podcast, where he discussed various aspects of his cricketing journey on Friday.
The fast bowler shared insights into his personal journey and life. Afridi talked about his upbringing, from being the youngest among seven siblings to his evolution into a formidable fast bowler.

Reflecting on his career highlights, Afridi stated that his standout performance was at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, where he delivered a six-wicket haul against Bangladesh.
Despite facing setbacks, including a career-threatening injury in 2022, Afridi declared that his dedication “never wavered”.
The young bowler also discussed his contributions to Pakistan’s success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was named “player of the match” twice against India and Bangladesh.
During the PCB podcast, Shaheen Afridi said that the Pakistani men’s cricket team needed to focus on collective teamwork and representing the country with pride in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

In a separate interview, Afridi expressed confidence in Pakistan’s chances of lifting the T20 World Cup trophy. The bowler drew parallels with his Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars’ journey to success.
Shaheen Afridi said that unity and collective effort within the team will help them easily achieve victory. He echoed the sentiments of coach Gary Kirsten, who also talked about the importance of playing for the team rather than individual recognition.
