ISLAMABAD: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi remained firm on leading the post-final ceremony of the Asia Cup, despite the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from the top continental cricket official.
According to sources, the Asia Cup trophy was removed from the presentation area, leaving only individual awards and cash prizes to be distributed among standout players from the Pakistan-India clash.
As per ICC protocols, post-match ceremonies typically begin within ten minutes of the game ending. However, the event did not commence, even as ICC officials and fans from both sides waited for the proceedings to start. The delay turned indefinite when India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, refused to receive the trophy from Chairman Naqvi.
The ICC has yet to release an official statement on the matter or on the sportsmanship displayed by the Indian skipper.

The post-match event convener, who also interviewed Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, later in a couple of minutes said that “the event is finished” after Mohsin Naqvi took the stage.
Cricket experts believe the incident will be remembered as a significant moment of poor sportsmanship on the part of Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav during a major continental final.
