PARIS: French prosecutors formally requested that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Achraf Hakimi be sent to trial on charges of rape, related to an alleged incident in February 2023.
The case is currently under consideration by an investigating magistrate, who will determine whether to proceed to court.
The accusation comes from a 24-year-old woman who says she was sexually assaulted at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billiancourt, a suburb in Paris.
The two reportedly communicated via Instagram for about a month before she visited his residence, with Achraf Hakimi paying for her transport.

The woman told police she rejected his advances but was assaulted. She said she managed to break free and contacted a friend for help.
Hakimi denies the allegations. His lawyer condemned the prosecutors’ decision as “incomprehensible” and signaled plans to challenge the case.
Hakimi’s lawyer cited evidence that they say undermines the accusations and referred to an alleged attempted extortion against Hakimi.

The woman’s lawyer expressed relief that the case was moving forward and denounced any attempts to question the victim’s credibility.

The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre confirmed the referral to the regional criminal court but stated that the final decision laid with the investigating judge.
