Aisam-ul-Haq, Aqeel Khan propel Pakistan to 2-0 lead in Davis Cup play-off

ISLAMABAD: Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan showcased their remarkable skills and veteran experience, securing a commanding 2-0 lead for Pakistan against Indonesia in the Davis Cup World Group-II tie held at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.
In the opening singles encounter, the 43-year-old Aisam-ul-Haq delivered a masterclass performance, defeating David Agung Susanto with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4 on the grass court of the Aisam-ul-Haq Tennis Pavilion.
Following Aisam’s triumph, Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan also demonstrated his prowess in the singles, overcoming Gunawan Trismuwantara with a score of 7-5, 6-4, thereby propelling the home team into the lead.
Despite Gunawan serving for the first set at 5-4, Aqeel displayed remarkable resilience, winning the next three games and securing the set at 7-5. In the second set, Aqeel broke his opponent early and maintained control to clinch the set and, consequently, the entire match.
The upcoming doubles match on Sunday will feature Pakistan’s Mohammad Shoaib and Mohammad Abid teaming up against the Indonesian duo of Gunawan Trismuwantara and Anthony Susanto.
Following the doubles match, the tie will continue with reverse singles clashes, where Aqeel will face David, and Aisam will go head-to-head with Gunawan.
