Aqib Javed likely to be given key role with national team

LAHORE: Former Test cricketer Aqib Javed is likely to be made the permanent head coach of the national one day international (ODI) team, sources familiar with the matter said on Sunday.

Aqib Javed may take over the new role for the national team’s upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.

For now Javed is working as Convener of Selection Committee. He has been serving as part of the selection committee during the England Test series.

Earlier, in October, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi gave a free hand to Javed to end ‘groupings’ within the national team to improve the team’s morale and performance.

The effects of this “internal surgery” as it became to know in media corners have also started to show in the national team’s recent victories.
