Arshad Nadeem wins gold medal at Asian Athletics Championships

GUMI: Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korean, on Saturday.
Nadeem’s best throw came on his last of the day, when he recorded an 86.40m throw. Even his second-best distance of 85.37m, which he recorded on his third throw, was still higher than India’s Sachin Yadav, who took home the silver medal after recording a distance of 85.16m on his final throw.
Nadeem had a slow start to the day, recording distances of 75.64m and 76.80m on his first and second throw respectively. After his third throw broke the 85 meter mark, Nadeem recorded distances of 83.99m and 83.44m on his next two, before his final monstrous sixth throw.

The Pakistani Olympic gold medalist nearly broke the championship record, which stands at 86.72m and was set by Cheng Chao-tsun of Taiwan in 2019. Earlier in Friday’s qualifying, Nadeem recorded another massive throw of 86.34m which put him at the top of the table.
Japan’s Sakiyama rounded out the top three, taking home bronze with a distance of 83.27m, which he recorded on his final throw. Sri Lanka’s Pathirage finished fourth with a score of 83.27m, and behind him in fifth was India’s Yash Vir Singh with a distance of 82.57m.
China’s Hu Haoran finished sixth, and was the only other to break the 80 meter mark, recording a distance of 80.93m in one of his early throws. Sri Lanka’s Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage finished seventh, with a distance of 79.81m which he recorded on his last throw.
Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir finished eighth with a distance of 75.39m.
