Australia announce squad for series against Pakistan

Australia

WEB DESK: Australia announced their squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan set to begin in November, on Monday.

Pakistan will travel to Australia for the three-match series which will commence on November 4, being followed by a three match T20I series set to start on November 14.

“This is our last ODI series before the Champions Trophy (in Pakistan) and the balance of the squad was focused on that as well as continuing to focus on the preparation of individuals for the upcoming Test summer,” Australian chief selector George Bailey said.

Pat Cummins will be returning as captain for the first time since Australia won the 2023 World Cup, after missing the ODI series against England and Scotland.

England announce playing XI for second test

Matthew Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk will be Australia’s openers, making their way on the squad in place of Mitchell Marsh and Travis head, who are both on paternity leave.

Short scored a half century in his last ODI appearance against England in September, while Fraser-McGurk made 41 runs off 18 balls in his last ODI outing against West Indies in February.

Cameron Green is being left out of the squad, as the allrounder will be side-lined for six months due to back surgery. Marcus Stonis will also be making his return to the squad after missing the tour of England.

The squad will also include Cooper Connolly who played his first and only ODI against England in September, where he didn’t get an opportunity to bat, nor took any wickets. Fellow all-rounder Aaron Hardie, who scored 20 runs and took no wickets in his last outing against England, will also be joining the squad.

The inclusion of the two showcase Australia’s desire to cultivate young talent.
