Bangladesh all out at 159 as Rabada takes 5

Bangladesh

CHATTOGRAM: Bangladesh put up a fight on Thursday after losing eight wickets before they reached 50 runs. They trail by 416 after their first innings came to an end with only 159 runs made.

RABADA’S FIVE-FER

Kagiso Rabada’s dominance continued, as he took a five-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s first innings. He was the first to strike on Wednesday, dismissing Shadman Islam as a review showed that Rabada’s delivery skimmed the edge of Islam’s bat on its way to the South Africa wicket keeper Kyle Verreynne.

He would strike again in the fifth over, this time finding the edge of Zakir Hasan’s bat, before the ball made its way into Verreynne’s gloves.

Rabada would dismiss Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 13th over. Shanto was caught in a moment of indecisiveness regarding how to play the ball. He ended up poking the ball to Verreynne who took his third catch of the game.

Rabada would take two more wickets in the 15th over. The first would be business as usual, as the South African fast bowler found yet another edge, and Verreyne did the rest, dismissing Mehidy Hasan Miraz on the third ball he faced.

In came Mahidul Islam Ankon to replace him, and off he went two balls later, as Rabada’s delivery angled in, making contact with the knee roll on Ankon’s pad.

DANE PATERSON

Dane Paterson would find some success as well. He would get his first wicket in the sixth over, dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy as the Bangladeshi batter attempted a drive that went awry. The delivery found the edge of Joy’s bat, sending the ball to second slip where South Africa skipper Aiden Markram took the catch.

Paterson’s second dismissal would come in the 14th over, as he sent off Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck on the second ball he faced. Rahim hit the ball straight to square leg where Tony de Zorzi took the catch.

KESHAV MAHARAJ

In the seventh over, Hasan Mahmud was dismissed on the seventh ball he faced, as Keshav Maharaj sent the ball crashing into stumps.

He would take his second, and the final wicket of the innings, in the 46th over. Taijul Islam would be dismissed after hitting the ball to the right of the person who just bowled it to him, and Maharaj took the catch.

SENURAN MUTHUSAMY

Senuran Muthusamy would pick up his only wicket in the 43rd over, but it was the biggest dismissal of the match. Mominul Haque, who was closing in on a century and had already made Bangladesh’s largest score with 82 runs, was sent off after Muthusamy’s deliver went past the inside edge of the bat and hit Haque’s front pad. Bangladesh reviewed but to no avail.

South Africa enforced the follow-on. Bangladesh still trail by 416 runs
