Matthew Breetzke has been the star for South Africa so far. He reached his fifty in 47 balls, playing with confidence and control. His timing was sharp and his shot selection smart.

Breetzke’s half-century helped steady the ship after early setbacks.

South African lost both openers quickly. But then Tony de Zorzi and Breetzke combined for an important partnership. They added 67 runs for the third wicket. de Zorzi scored 38 off 39 balls before falling to spinner Adam Zampa.

Much as Breetzke proved to be an asset for South Africa, Zampa was key for Australia. The leg-spinner troubled the South African batters with his flight and variaitons. He took the critical wicket of de Zorzi, caught and bowled for 38. Zampa;s bowling has kept the run rate under control.

Similarly, Josh Hazlewood bowled well. The fast bowler kept good line and length. He held the pressure on South Africa’s batters.

South Africa has faced some difficulty against spin in this match. The pitch offers turn and bounce. However, Breetzke adopted well. He played spin with patience and skill. His calm approach was important for his country’s run rate.

At 103 for three, South Africa is well placed to post a high target. The middle and lower-order must now support Breetzke. They will look to accelerate the scoring in the final overs.
