Corbin Bosch pulls out of PSL for IPL, served legal notice by PCB

LAHORE: South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch was served a legal notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) due to his decision to pull out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in favour of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bosch was chosen by the Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL draft held in January as part of the diamond category, but has now chosen to instead play for the Mumbai Indians, as they required a replacement for Lizaad Williams who is injured.

The dispute was made possible as this is the first time the PSL and IPL are set to run concurrently. The PSL now runs from April 11 to May 18, a change made to increase the availability of overseas players, as their previous window conflicted with multiple other leagues. However, now it conflicts with the biggest T20 league there is, as the IPL runs from March 22 to May 25. Although, the PSL draft was held in January in order to know the players still available after the IPL had its auction in November.

The notice from the PCB states that Bosch “has been asked to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional and contractual commitments.” The PCB also stated that the legal notice outlines the repercussions of breaching contractual obligations, as well as a stipulated time frame in which the board expects a response. The time frame was not explicitly stated in the media release.

The notice ends by stating that the “PCB will not make any further comments on the matter.”
