LOS ANGELES: Dalton Knecht broke a rookie record on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 124 – 118.
Knecht was unconscious from three, shooting at a 74 per cent clip from beyond the arc as he hit nine of his 12 shots. He tied the record for most three pointers in a single game by a rookie, putting Knecht alongside Keyonte George, Yogi Ferrell, and Rodrigue Beaubois.
The Lakers rookie scored his career high, and the game high, with 37 points. He outshined Lakers’ superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who each had 26 points.

After Knecht dropped the first points of the game for the Lakers with his first three of the match, putting Los Angeles up 3-2, the Jazz never saw the lead again. While the rookie dominated all night long, he truly took over the game with 3:30 left in the third quarter.
Knecht would hit four straight threes for the Lakers in less than two minutes, and would hit another with thirty seconds left in the quarter. His dominance would continue into the early moments of the fourth, where he hit another three. Those five threes, along with a series of free throws, brought Knecht’s total to 37. At that point, he had singlehandedly scored the last 22 points for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are now 10-4, putting them at third in the Western Conference. They find themselves at the top of West: Group B in the NBA Cup, having won both of the two in-season tournament games they have played so far.
