Donovan Mitchell takes over in fourth as Cavaliers beat Celtics

Mitchell

CLEVELAND: The two best teams in the Eastern Conference faced each other for the second time this season on Sunday, as Jason Tatum and the Boston Celtics went to war with Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Celtics handed the Cavaliers their first loss earlier this season, bringing an end to an incredible 15 game winning streak. With another victory, the Celtics would have taken over the top spot in the conference.

Jason Tatum had a great game, scoring 33 points on a 44.4 percent clip from the field, hitting 12 of his 27 shots. However, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell would have an even better game, scoring 35 points on better efficiency, as he shot 57.1 per cent from the field, hitting 12 of his 21 shots.

Things looked promising for the Cavaliers early on, as they held the lead for the majority of the first, bringing their lead to 11 points in the second. But the Celtics would fight back in the third, taking the lead immediately on a three-point bucket from Tatum. The Celtic’s superstar would takeover, scoring 17 points in the quarter, leading Boston to a 14-point lead near the end of the quarter.

Still trailing by a dozen early in the fourth, prospects of winning looked grim for the Cavaliers. That was until Mitchell scored 20 points in the frame, hitting all four of his attempted shots from deep, and a couple more from within the arc.

The Cavaliers would win 115-111, holding on strong to their top stop in the east. They currently have a record of 18 wins and three losses. The Celtics are close behind, with one less win, and one more loss. In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder are king, with 15 wins and five losses. The Houston Rockets are inching closer, with a record of 15 wins and six losses.
