WEB DESK: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) made it two wins from two in Ligue 1 after edging Angers 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on Friday night, thanks to a second-half strike from Fabián Ruiz.
Despite dominating possession and chances, Luis Enrique’s side struggled to break down a stubborn Angers defense in the first half. Their best opportunity came in the 26th minute when Ousmane Dembélé fired a penalty high over the bar after João Neves was brought down inside the box. The miss summed up PSG’s frustrations, as efforts from Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, and Bradley Barcola also went wide before the interval.

The breakthrough finally arrived four minutes into the second half. Achraf Hakimi combined with Ruiz at the edge of the area, and the Spanish midfielder drilled a right-footed effort past goalkeeper Lionel Koffi to send the home crowd into relief.
From there, PSG tightened their grip, peppering the Angers goal. Nuno Mendes forced Koffi into a sharp save in the 79th minute, while substitute Gonçalo Ramos also saw a long-range strike turned away. Ruiz himself nearly doubled his tally with a header that sailed just over.
Angers, who had made several substitutions in search of fresh energy, offered little going forward and rarely troubled Lucas Chevalier in the PSG goal. Their best moment came early in the match when Sidiki Cherif dragged a shot wide, but the visitors spent most of the evening pinned in their own half.
Enrique’s bench provided further firepower, with Kang-in Lee and Warren Zaïre-Emery introduced to maintain intensity as PSG pushed for a second. While the scoreline remained narrow, the champions’ dominance was clear—they outshot Angers heavily and controlled the tempo until the final whistle.
For PSG, the result marks a 19th consecutive victory over Angers, underlining their supremacy in this fixture. For Angers, who had opened their season with a win over Paris FC, this was a sobering reminder of the gulf that remains between Ligue 1’s elite and its strugglers.
