COPENHAGEN: FC Midtjylland midfielder Alamara Djabi is in a stable condition after being stabbed and seriously injured over the weekend in Herning, the Danish Superliga club said on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old, who came through the youth system at Benfica before joining Midtjylland in 2023, has made two senior appearances for the Danish side.

The club said Djabi was initially in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery following the attack. He later had a second operation.

“Thanks to the professional efforts of emergency responders and hospital staff, his condition is now stable,” Midtjylland said in a statement. “He has awakened from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances.”

The club said it was in close contact with authorities and providing support to the player and his family.

The incident took place in Herning, a town in central Denmark where the club is based, according to Midtjylland. Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the attack or any possible motive.

Djabi’s injury comes during the domestic season in which Midtjylland are competing in the Danish Superliga, where they sit second in their group, two points behind AGF.

BOSTON: Kenya’s John Korir delivered a record-breaking performance on Monday, retaining his Boston Marathon title and rewriting history with a stunning course record of 2 hours, 1 minute and 52 seconds.

The 130th edition of the world’s oldest marathon witnessed a dominant Kenyan display, as Sharon Lokedi also successfully defended her women’s crown, finishing in 2:18:51. Lokedi, who had set a course record last year, once again showcased her consistency at the elite level.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lanka T20 team captain Dasun Shanaka after breaking away with the contract being dealt with him.

Shanaka unilaterally violated the PSL player registration contract on March 21, deciding not taking part in the PSL, according to the country’s cricket body.

Shanaka, following the PCB’s ban, will not be able to feature in the PSL 12^th edition, though he apologised for breaching the player registration contract.

PCB issued bans and suspensions against multiple players in the going PSL edition. Mostly related to contract breaches or code-of-conduct violations, especially involving PSL vs IPL commitments.

Earlier, Zimbabwe origin Blessing Muzarabani also gained a two-year PSL ban after he withdrew from his PSL commitment to join an IPL franchise.

Likewise, national team player Fakhar Zaman was also given a two-match suspension in PSL 11. He was accused of ball-tampering allegations, which was later upheld on appeal.

The PCB has taken similar actions beforehand as well. South Africa Corbin Bosch was previously banned for one year after leaving PSL contract to feature in the IPL.

KARACHI: Mohammad Rizwan has admitted that his below-par performance as captain played a key role in Rawalpindiz’s defeat, saying the result might have been different had he delivered on the day.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Rizwan said he accepts responsibility for the loss, adding that there must have been some gap in his effort.

“Had I performed as a captain, the team could have won,” he said, terming it a day where luck did not favour him.

Rizwan further revealed that Yasir Khan was included in the side with a clear plan in mind. He said he decided to open the innings himself to shield Yasir from the new-ball swing and give him better conditions to play his natural game.

WASHINGTON: Heliot Ramos inspired a powerful offensive display as the San Francisco Giants broke out of their recent slump with a dominant 10-5 victory over the Washington Nationals in the opening game of their three-match series on Friday night.

WASHINGTON: WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had urged FIFA to consider Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup, and said he had spoken to the governing body’s president about the matter.

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump said he wanted to “repay” Pakistan’s military leadership and prime minister for what they had done for the United States and the world.

“I want to repay Great Field Marshal and PM of Pakistan for what they have done for the world and especially for US,” Trump wrote.

He added that he had “talked to the FIFA president” about allowing Pakistan’s football team into an upcoming World Cup or “removing a NATO team to make some room.”

There was no immediate comment from FIFA. Trump did not provide further details on the alleged conversation.

The Pakistan national football team represents Pakistan in men’s international football in FIFA-authorised events and is governed by the Pakistan Football Federation, the sport’s national governing body.

Pakistan became a member of FIFA in 1948 and joined the Asian Football Confederation in 1954. The team made its international debut in 1950 but has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup finals.

Outside the South Asian region, Pakistan has not qualified for any major international tournament. Its limited successes include winning the 1952 Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament and securing gold medals at the South Asian Games in 1989 and 1991.
