LAHORE: Former test fast bowler Farooq Hameed passed away on Thursday due to a protracted illness. He was 80 years old.

Farooq Hameed, a tall right-arm fast bowler, made his first-class debut in the 1961–62 season and toured England with the Pakistan Eaglets in 1963. He played two matches for Pakistan against the Commonwealth XI in 1963–64. Renowned coach Alf Gover recognised his exceptional pace, considering him among the fastest bowlers in the world, but noted that he lacked accuracy.

CONDOLENCES

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his grief over the passing of former test cricketer Farooq Hameed.

In a message, he expressed his condolences to the grieving family and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.

The PCB also expressed its condolences on the passing of former Test fast bowler Farooq Hameed.

He represented Pakistan in one Test match at the MCG against Australia in 1964. He took 111 wickets in 43 matches during his first-class career spanning from 1961/62 to 1969/70.
