MUNICH: Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram following Portugal’s 2-1 triumph over Germany in the Nations League semi-final on Wednesday, galvanizing his side as they prepare to face either Spain or France in the final.
“Em Frente, Portugal!!” wrote Ronaldo on Instagram alongside pictures of his team celebrating their victory.
The 40-year-old football legend finally led Portugal to a victory over Germany, their first victory since the Euros in 2000. Since then, Portugal had lost all five of their next encounters with Germany.
But the trend changed in the 68th minute of Wednesday nights match, as Ronaldo found the back of the net off an assist from Nuno Mendes, putting Portugal up 2-1 just a few minutes after Francisco Conceicao equalised.

Ronaldo’s winner was his 137th international goal and 937th in total, both of which are records.
Portugal will now face either Spain or France, who are set to clash tonight in Stuttgart. If Spain win it will be their third consecutive Nations League final. Spain also won their last outing against France in the 2024 Euros. However, the last time the two met in the Nations League, which happened to be the 2021 finals, the French got the better of the Spaniards.
Portugal won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2019. Since then, France and Spain have each won once as well. Ronaldo will have the chance to separate himself and his country from the rest on June 8 at the Nations Cup final in Munich.
As for the future of Ronaldo’s club career, much is uncertain after the Portuguese star announced that this chapter of his career is over, possibly hinting at an end to his time with Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League.
