NEW DELHI: Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with a sublime unbeaten 129 as India declared their innings at a commanding 518-5 on day two of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

Resuming at 318-2, India lost overnight batter Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the day after a disastrous mix-up with Gill ended his innings at 175, just short of a double hundred. The left-hander’s dismissal silenced the crowd, who had expected another marathon knock from the young opener.

Gill, however, took charge with a composed yet fluent innings, bringing up his 10th Test hundred and fifth of the year. His innings featured 16 fours and two sixes, showcasing a full range of elegant strokeplay. He shared a brisk 91-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who made 43 before falling to left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.
