ISLAMABAD: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has withdrawn from the upcoming Australia tour, expressing his dismay over what he calls “undue criticism” directed towards him, as reported by The News on Friday.
Rauf, currently participating in the National T20 Championship in Karachi, seeks to focus on attaining optimal mental, physical, and form condition before resuming Test cricket.
Sources close to the fast bowler revealed that he has been particularly affected by criticism received during the World Cup campaign, with concerns raised about his form and wicket-taking capabilities.

A family source close to Rauf stated, “Haris is upset with those who have unleashed undue criticism on the pacers during the World Cup campaign. Even those who hardly know anything are criticising his form and raising questions about his not picking wickets regularly during World Cup matches.”
Rauf believes that, to play Test cricket, he needs to be in the right state of mind both physically and mentally. The source highlighted Rauf’s commitment to focusing on T20 cricket in the short term to prepare for Tests and other international commitments
Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, addressing reporters in his inaugural press conference, announced the 18-member Pakistan Test squad for the Australia tour, scheduled from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024.
Riaz revealed that Rauf had initially assured the cricket board of his participation but withdrew at the last minute, citing concerns about potential fitness issues during the tour.
Riaz expressed disappointment, stating, “It is important to inform you about this because people should have clarity about what’s going on. We have tried facilitating him in every way. Even if he failed in this tour, I was ready to accept it.”
The chief selector explained that the decision would be a setback for Pakistan, highlighting that efforts were made to address Rauf’s concerns.
However, Rauf’s withdrawal at the last moment has left the team without a key player for the upcoming series.
