CHENNAI: Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud stunned India in the first test between the two sides on Thursday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The bowler took three wickets, with one of them being Shubman Gill who got out on an eight-ball duck.
It was a rough beginning to the two-day test match for India as Hasan Mahmud took control of the game early on, taking three wickets before the team was able to score 35 and taking a fourth before they reached 100. His assault began by dismissing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the sixth over. Two overs late Shubham Gill fell as well.
Gill is facing backlash for his poor performance, being caught out by Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das after attempting to flick the ball leg side. Fans took to social media to call the batsman “overrated” and a “fraud,” citing previous performances against England in January and February in which he was also dismissed for 0.
However, it was a different story for Mahmud, who continued to receive praise after dismissing Kohli in the 10th over, holding the Indian star down to six runs and the Indian side to 34. His fourth wicket came against Rishabh Pant who was in the midst of giving India a hint of hope, scoring 39 runs off 52 deliveries.
