LAHORE: Speaking from the Multan Cricket Stadium, Aqib Javed, Head Coach of Pakistan National Cricket team, expressed hope of Pakistan being victorious in the ongoing test series against West Indies.
“West Indies batsmen can’t play that well against spin bowlers,” Javed said, adding, “The rule of Test cricket is that you win at home.” So far Pakistan is leading the series by 1-0.
Speaking on Pakistan’s team, the head coach said that so far no spinner has played in South Africa, adding that team is selected based on playing conditions.
Javed said that whether it is South Africa or England, the hosts offer the pitches of their own choice. This causes difficulties for Pakistan’s batsmen. “Fast bowlers will [also] have to improve their reverse swing skills on such pitches,” Javed added.
He cited the example of “Rawalpindi Express” Shoaib Akhtar, saying that “[He] also used to take wickets on such pitches.” He said that it is baffling to him that if fast bowlers take wickets that’s considered good, but if spinners take wickets, then it is considered bad.
Aqib Javed said that the most important thing is to win the match. “We will see till the last day of the pitch how many fast and spin bowlers have played,” Javed said.
