ICC rankings: Sharma and Santner rise after Champions Trophy final

ICC rankings Sharma Santner

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings were released on Wednesday following the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which saw India take home the trophy without losing a single match. The big two winners of the ranking update happened to be the two captains of the tournament finalists, Rohit Sharma and Mitchell Santner.

Sharma rises, Kohli falls

After struggling early in the tournament, India skipper Rohit Sharma had an incredible knock in the finals of the Champions Trophy against New Zealand, as he scored 76 runs before being dismissed in the 27th over. His impressive performance earned him player of the match.

Sharma has now risen two spots in the Men’s ODI batting rankings to take third place away from Heinrich Klaasen, who now finds himself in fourth. The Indian skipper now has a rating of 756.

Shubman Gill still occupies first place with a rating of 784. Despite poor performances in the final three matches India played in the Champions Trophy, Gill scored a century in their very first match of the tournament against Bangladesh. He also scored 46 against Pakistan in India’s second match.

Virat Kohli has fallen one spot and now finds himself in fifth with a rating of 736. While he scored an unbeaten ton against Pakistan, and 84 against Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-finals, Kohli performed poorly in both games against New Zealand. He was dismissed after scoring 11 runs when facing the Kiwis in the group stage, and was dismissed after only scoring a single run in the finals.

Santner’s huge jump

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner rose six places to take second in the Men’s ODI bowling rankings. He had two three wicket matches in the Champions Trophy, including the tournament opener against Pakistan, and the semi-finals with South Africa. In total, Santner took nine wickets across the tournament. He now has a rating of 657. Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana still occupies first place with a rating of 680.

India’s Kuldeep Yadav took third place after seven wickets across the tournament. He had three in India’s match against Pakistan, and two in both matches against New Zealand. Kuldeep now has a rating of 650.
