DUBAI: Sources revealed on Tuesday that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was satisfied with the preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, which is set to kick off in February 2025.

ICC board members were presented a report by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, which assured them that renovation work at the three stadiums that will be in use for the Champions trophy, including Gaddafi stadium, National Stadium Karachi, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, will be completed before the tournament begins.

The PCB chairman invited the board members to take an official visit to Pakistan, in order to review the arrangements being made for the highly anticipated event.

Upon visiting Gadaffi stadium earlier in the week, the boards chairman directed work on the project to be accelerating, stating that preparations would be completed in “record time”. Naqvi also said that no effort will be spared for the “timely completion of the project,” and that the highest quality of work will be ensured “at all costs.”

ICC CHAIR

The ICC board members suggested an adjustment which would limit the Chairman’s and Independent Director’s terms. Thus, Jay Shah who will take over as the Chairman for the ICC on December 1st could end up serving two terms of three years. According to the ICC statement released Monday, the recommendation will be “circulated for approval”.

Previously, the ICC Chair and Independent Director would serve three terms of two years. The council is also looking for a new Independent Director as Indra Nooyi’s final term in the position ended in July.
