India beat SA to win T20 World Cup for the second time

WEB DESK: India on Saturday beat South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final to take the trophy home for the second time.

India joined England and the West Indies in winning the T20 World Cup title twice, after their first victory in 2007 against Pakistan in the final.

South Africa required 30 runs from 30 balls when Jasprit Bumrah returned to bowl. He disrupted South Africa’s composure, turning the match around when they seemed in control. However, it was Hardik Pandya who ultimately sealed the game with remarkable calmness.

India dashed South Africa’s hopes of winning their maiden title at the mega-tournament. The trophy marked the end of India’s 11-year wait for a global title, bringing tears of joy to many players after the victory.

Player of the Match

Kohli, who scored 76 runs, was dismissed in the second last over of the game. He was also awarded the Player of the Match title.

“This was my last t20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can’t get a run, and then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered. Now or never, last T20 for India wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it,” said Kohli while receiving the title.

Player of the series

Jasprit Bumrah has been named Player of the Series. “I tried to keep calm. We play the sport for this, I am really over the moon, son is here, family is here, no better feeling than that,”said Bumrah.
