The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from all Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events for the foreseeable future, including Asia Cup 2025 and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
According to Indian media, the BCCI has taken this decision due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The cricket board has said that since the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is currently being headed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also holds the portfolio of Pakistan’s Interior Minister, the BCCI has decided to disengage from ACC-led tournaments.
The decision has reportedly been communicated to the ACC verbally so far, which also includes India pulling out of the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. This tournament is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month.
Some media reports, however, say that the decision for women’s tournament is finalised, but a final decision is yet to be made on the Men’s Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in September.
The men’s Asia Cup includes three teams in addition to Pakistan and India – Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The previous edition of the tournament was also marred by Indian cricket board, which was moved to a hybrid model despite initial plans of being fully hosted by Pakistan.
