Inzamam picked as cricket team’s chief selector, again

LAHORE: Former Test captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been appointed Pakistan men’s cricket team’s chief selector, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.

The PCB issued an official notification regarding this development.

Inzamam held the same position from 2016 to 2019, which he termed the most challenging job of his career.

“It is an honour for me to be appointed as the chairperson of the national men’s selection committee. I am thankful to Mr Zaka Ashraf for offering me this post. It is wonderful to see the chairman involving former players in cricketing matters. I have worked previously in this role and I am eager to work in it once again,” said Inzamam while talking about his appointment.

The development comes a day after the Pakistan government granted permission for the national team to travel to India for the Cricket World Cup.

According to a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. “It has, therefore, decided to send its team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
