NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League was suspended for one week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday.
A BCCI official told Press Trust of India that “it does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war.”
“Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” the BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.
The news comes after yesterdays match between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned following air raid alerts.
Twelve matches reamined in the IPL’s 70 match regular season, as well as four playoff games.
PSL
While the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been postponed, it will continue in the United Arab Emirates. Four regular season games remain, as well as four playoff games.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PBC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated earlier that “the PCB has always been of the opinion that politics and sports should be kept separate, but the targetting of Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium by India was a highly irresponsible and dangerous move, which was intended to affect the HBL PSL 10.”
