Islamabad to have int’l standard ‘Olympic Village’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the construction of an international standard Olympic Village aimed at promoting sports and providing facilities for the youth.

“The majority of Pakistan’s population consists of young individuals, and sports activities offer them a positive avenue to harness their energy,” emphasised the prime minister.

The government has taken historic steps to promote sports across the country, including the initiation of a national programme for the development and advancement of sports, he further stated.

The foundation stone of Pakistan’s first sports university has been laid in Islamabad, he said.

The premier said that the Olympic Village is a national project, aiming to facilitate athletes and sports enthusiasts with world-class amenities.

“The construction of the village will include a corporate structure and will be overseen by experts in the field,” said Sharif.

It was disclosed during the meeting that the Olympic Village would be built on 1200 kanals of land in the vicinity of Margalla.

It was said that the facilities at the Olympic Village will meet international standards, including a cricket academy, international cricket stadium, hockey ground, tennis courts, athletics stadium, indoor sports, international hotel, and parking facilities.

Furthermore, the meeting was told that an estimated Rs3 billion have been allocated for the construction of the Olympic Village.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasised the importance of transparency in the construction of the Olympic Village.
