ARLINGTON: After Mike Tyson lost his first professional bout in nearly 20 years against YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul on Friday night, the world was reminded of a simple fact. Age is undefeated in professional sports.
THE FIGHT
Round one began with the 58-year-old Tyson putting on the pressure immediately, chasing Jake Paul around the ring. He landed an overhand right early, as he backed the YouTuber into the ropes. Paul struggled to land, as he was forced on the back-foot. He ended up landing a right hand on Tyson’s dome right after sending a left to the former heavyweight champion’s body.
Tyson was tamer in the second round, looking a bit tired. Paul settled into the fight, using his jab more to keep the boxing legend at bay as Tyson struggled to land clean. The third round began with Tyson receiving a mean right hand by Paul. Yet, he continued to press on, but Paul wobbled Iron Mike with a flurry of left hands. Tyson’s head movement seemed to have vanished, as Paul had no trouble landing repeatedly. The former heavyweight champion was in bad condition heading into the fourth.
The remaining contest had a lack of noteworthy action. Paul took advantage of a tired Tyson to pile on the pressure. The YouTuber had his eyes set on getting a knockout, landing a strong right hand on the top of Tyson’s head at the end of round five. Tyson survived through the sixth and seventh, despite the tired and old legend being unable to land on Paul, who teed off on the former champ with a series of jabs.

Tyson survived through the seventh, to make it to the final two-minute round of the bout. In what could be the final round of Tyson’s career, nearly 20 years after his last professional bout against Kevin McBride, the 58-year-old used what remaining energy he had to weave and slip out of the way of the majority of Paul’s punches. In the last ten seconds, Paul paid his respect to the boxing legend, bowing to Tyson. As soon as the bout ended, the two embraced.
At the age of 58, Tyson managed to go eight, two-minute rounds with a 27-year old Jake Paul, who is in his physical prime. To the relief of fans around the world, Tyson survived the bout without being knocked out or getting hurt. However, the contest did once again remind the world, that boxing, and professional sports in general, is a young man’s game.
TYSON’S FUTURE
The judges scored the contest a unanimous decision victory for Jake Paul, an unsurprising result, as the baddest man on the planet only managed to land 18 punches throughout the fight.
“First and foremost, Mike Tyson, it’s such an honour,” Paul said moments after the decision was read. “He’s the greatest to ever do it,” Paul praised, adding later that “we wouldn’t be here without him,” and that Tyson is “obviously the toughest, baddest man on the planet.”
Tyson was asked whether he felt that he proved the world wrong, showing that he could go eight rounds with a younger man. “I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself,” Tyson said, adding that he’s “not one of those guys that look to please the world.”

To the dismay of fans, Tyson stated that this bout may not be his last, after being asked if this was his final foray into boxing. “I don’t think so,” said Tyson, later naming Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, as a possible future opponent.
“Motherfucker, I’d kill you Mike,” said Logan Paul.
