Leclerc wins the US GP as Verstappen and Norris battle

AUSTIN: Charles Leclerc would take his third win of the season on Monday, as a furious battle for third place pitted championship contenders Max Verstappen and Lando Norris against each other.

Max Verstappen would take a late lunge into turn one, overtaking Lando Norris, but forcing both of them to go wide of the track lines, allowing Charles Leclerc to take the lead. Later in the lap, Carlos Sainz would get right behind his Ferrari teammate, but would immediately have to give Verstappen back the place as he pushed him wide of the track lines.

In the 51st lap, championship contenders Verstappen and Norris would be battling for third, after Sainz found himself in second place following a couple pit stops from the Red bull and McLaren drivers. It was Norris’s best chance since the beginning of the race, but Verstappen would manage to stave off the McLaren driver with five laps to go.

A bit of controversy stirred at the end of the 52nd lap, as Norris was finally able to overtake Verstappen, however did so after all four wheels of his McLaren left the track lines. Norris claimed he gained the advantage after being forced off the track by Verstappen who was defending the outside corner during the turn.

Norris would be given a five second penalty in the last lap of the race, being forced to lose third place to his rival. But, despite the incredible battle between the world championship contenders, it would be Ferrari’s night, taking home a one two finish, with Charles Leclerc winning the United States Grand Prix.

It would be Leclerc’s third grand prix win of the season, and his eighth win ever. Verstappen currently has 354 points, increasing his lead over Norris, who has 297 points. However, McLaren leads the constructor’s championship by 40 points, having a total of 544, while Red Bull has 504.
