Legal battle over ‘Rawalpindi Express’ continues in Sindh High Court


KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday adjourned hearing into an appeal against the injunction order over the film ‘Rawalpindi Express’, a biopic made on the life of former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

Q Films, the production company moved the SHC against an injunction order preventing the filming and release of the film.

Appellant’s counsel submitted that Shoaib Akhtar was continuously misrepresenting facts before the court.

However, Shoaib Akhtar’s lawyer did not appear in the court.

The court has adjourned the hearing of the appeal till August 30.

In July, former speedster put out an Instagram story with an image of a stay order from the court to halt to the production of his supposed biopic titled Rawalpindi Express.

The notice stated that the court, through its order dated June 22, 2023, has restrained the producer of the biopic, titled Rawalpindi Express, from shooting, filming, and releasing any part of the film to any media platform, including social media and cinema, until a final decision is reached in the ongoing legal battle.

Earlier, this year, he had announced dissociating himself from the venture, saying, “failure to resolve disagreements amicably and constant contractual violations” led him to take this decision.

Directed by Faraz Qaiser, ‘Rawalpindi Express’, A Q films production, is written by Qaiser Nawaz.

Akhtar, known for his breathtaking speed and fastest delivery in the history of cricket represented Pakistan in 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 15 T20Is.
