KABUL: Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Mohammad Nabi displayed a heartfelt gesture of sportsmanship and humanity following tragic news related to Sri Lankan player Dunith Wellalage.
Sources said that The Lions Wellalage’s father suffered a heart attack shortly at a time when the young cricketer was hit for five consecutive sixes during their match Afghanistan. The incident left Wellalage emotionally shaken, with sources saying that he was informed about his father’s tragic demise just after his side ensured their victory over Afghanistan. He immediately left for home country, leaving his squad in the stadium.

Reacting to the news, Afghanistan side fastest performer Nabi expressed deep sorrow and said he was devastated to hear about the unfortunate medical emergency faced by Wellalage’s father.
“When I found out that Dunith Wellalage’s father had a heart attack after I hit five sixes off him, it made me very upset,” Nabi said in a statement.
The Afghan star further added that he has great respect for Wellalage and his family, and plans to visit Sri Lanka personally to offer his condolences.
