LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was elected to be president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday, according to sources.
Sources claim that Naqvi’s appointment was confirmed during a virtually held general council meeting and that the official announcement will be made soon.
The ACC was previously led by Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Shammi Silva. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Naqvi would be taking over from Silva. Silva himself took over from Jay Shah, the current chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), in December of 2024. Naqvi appointment ends Silva’s short term.

Earlier in the month, media sources claimed the arrangements were made in the effort to avoid further tensions between Pakistan and India in the lead up to the 2025 Champions Trophy. Notably, the 2025 Asia Cup was set to be hosted by India. However, earlier media reports stated a venue change was made, and that the tournament would be played at a neutral venue.
Dubai, which co-hosted the 2025 Champions Trophy due to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, may once again be the alternative venue. Apart from the UAE, reports have also claimed that Sri Lanka is another possible option. The 2023 Asia Cup was also co-hosted, with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine in Sri Lanka.
The council has five full members, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. There are an additional 25 associate members.
