Nadal announces retirement after Davis Cup

WEBDESK: Rafael Nadal announced on Thursday that he would be retiring following the Davis Cup finals next month, ending an illustrious career.
The former world number one has won 22 grand slams in his career and 92 total tiles. He has won over $130 million over the course of his career, and won over 1000 matches. Nadal is known as the ‘king of clay’ winning 14 French Open singles titles in his career, more than any other player in history.
The 38-year-old tennis legend announced on social media that he was making the “difficult decision” to retire. The news comes off the back of the recent injury problems that the Spanish star has been struggling with.
“Much more successful than I could have ever imagined,” was how Nadal summed up his career.

He will be representing his country in the Davis cup finals, where the Spanish team will face off the against the Netherlands in the quarter final round. He will be playing alongside Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number 2.
Everything in life “has a beginning and an end,” said the tennis superstar.
Long-time rival and 20 time grand slam champion, Roger Federer, congratulated Nadal.
“What a career, Rafa! I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all your incredible achievements in the game we love. It’s been an absolute honour!” said Federer.
