WEB DESK: The Netherlands and Italy booked their tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a nerve-wracking final day of European qualifiers, with Italy making history by securing their maiden appearance in cricket’s global showpiece event.
In a day where all four competing teams remained in contention until the last matches, the Dutch secured a seven-wicket victory over Italy at Titwood Ground – but both sides progressed due to Italy’s superior net run rate over Jersey. The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The Italians, restricted to 134-7 after Roelof van der Merwe’s economical 3-15 spell, needed to stretch the game beyond 15 overs to qualify. Despite Michael Levitt (33) and Max O’Dowd’s (39) strong Powerplay start for Netherlands, Italy’s bowlers dragged the match to the 17th over to seal their historic passage. Benjamin Manenti (31) and Grant Stewart’s late cameo (21* off 10) had earlier given Italy a fighting total.
Jersey’s first-ever T20I win over Scotland (by six wickets) proved insufficient as they fell short on NRR. The 2026 event now has 15 confirmed participants, with three more spots available through Asia/EAP qualifiers and two via Africa’s pathway.
