New Zealand in shambles as Sri Lanka dominates

Sri Lanka

GALLE: Sri Lanka continues to obliterate New Zealand in their second test, ending the Kiwis innings in the 40th over on Saturday.

New Zealand was unable to score even 100 runs, getting all out for 88. Asitha Fernando struck first, getting Tom Latham out in the first over after Nissanka took a simple catch. Then it was Prabath Jayasuriya, who put on another incredible performance, taking six wickets, beginning with Devon Conway. Conway left the pitch after being caught out by Dhananjaya de Silva. What started as an LBW appeal, ended up revealing contact between the edge of Conway’s bat and the ball.

Jayasuriya struck again in the 17th over as the same fate befell Kane Williamson, being caught out by de Silva.

Jayasuriya wasn’t about to let his teammate show him up, taking two wickets in the very next over, as Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips were both caught out by de Silva.

All hope was lost for New Zealand at this point, but Jayasuriya wasn’t done torturing them. Two more wickets came in the 31st and 33rd, starting with Daryl Mitchell, who was caught out by Angelo Matthews. Tim Southee fell next after he edged the ball into de Silva’s hands.

The last wicket fell in the 40th over, as Peris bowled out Mitchell Santner, ending New Zealand’s innings.

Sri Lanka enforced the follow-on, which means New Zealand was up to bat again and it didn’t take long for them to falter once more. Tom Latham was taken out on the sixth delivery he faced, scoring zero runs after a he was caught out by Nissanka on a delivery from Peiris in the very first over.
