Novak Djokovic powers into French Open quarter-finals


PARIS: On the clay grounds of the French Open, Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic displayed extraordinary strength on Monday as he won a match to reach quarter-finals in the face of a formidable opponent while grappling extreme physical pain.

In a test of real strength, the world’s number one tennis player faced his opponent with a crippling knee injury. In a five-set battle against Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the Serb dug deep to secure his spot in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros.

This marks Novak Djokovic 15th consecutive French Open quarter-finals.

From the very beginning, it was evident to the audience that Cerundolo was not going to surrender easily. With each strike, the Argentine kept his Serbian opponent on edge, setting the tone for a match that would extend for more than four hours.

Despite grappling with a knee injury, Novak Djokovic showed the world why he is the number one tennis player. The Serb not only withstood Cerundolo’s relentless offensive but also dominated the opening set with a 6-1 lead.

As the match progressed, Djokovic’s knee injury took its toll. The Serb visibly grimaced in pain. This vulnerability allowed Cerundolo an opening and win the third set with a score of 6-3.

The fourth set was a closely contested battle, with both players refusing to yield. However, Novak Djokovic ultimately sealed the fourth set with a 7-5 victory.

The next round decided the match’s outcome. Despite an injured knee, Djokovic maintained his winning streak and secured a hard-fought 6-3 victory to reach the quarter-finals.

Expressing gratitude towards his opponent, Djokovic openly acknowledged, “Three or four times I was points away from losing this match and thank you to my opponent. He deserves so much applause, that’s for sure. I’m not sure how I won this match.”

Djokovic’s next opponent will be determined by the outcome of the match between Casper Ruud and Taylor Fritz.
