JEDDAH: Nissan’s Oliver Rowland extended his lead in the electric Formula E championship on Saturday with a dominant win in the second of two races in Saudi Arabia.

The Briton, who was runner-up in Jeddah on Friday after being overtaken by DS Penske’s Maximilian Guenther at the final corner, made no mistake a day later to go 17 points clear in the standings.

The win was his second in four races this season after victory in Mexico last month.

“I got out of trouble and went to the front and led from there. I’m just trying to focus race by race, try and do the best job we can and score points,” said Oliver Rowland.

McLaren’s Taylor Barnard was second in Saturday’s race, and is second overall in the championship with 51 points to Rowland’s 68, with Jake Hughes third for Maserati MSG Racing in an all-British podium.

Jake Dennis finished fourth for Andretti, after charging from 19th, to make it a British top four for the first time in Formula E history.

Guenther, fourth overall, drew a blank after crashing out following a collision with Porsche’s previous championship leader Antonio Felix da Costa now third.

Nissan lead McLaren, Porsche and DS Penske by five points in the team standings. The next round is scheduled for Miami on April 12.
