Olympics: Gold medalist Arshad Nadeem visits Raiwind

RAIWIND: Javelin throw Olympian Arshad Nadeem has arrived in Raiwind, where he performed Fajr nafal prayers, seeking blessings for his recent Paris Olympic 2024 achievements.

Accompanied by family and friends, the Olympian also visited the Tablighi Jamaat in the historic city. Nadeem will later depart for his hometown of Mian Channu,

The Olympic gold medalist reached Pakistan to a hero’s welcome in early hours of Sunday. He was received at Lahore airport by his family and several high profile government officials.

Arshad Nadeem was warmly embraced by his father. Later he was adorned in bouquets and garlands as government officials shook hands and embraced the athlete.

The Olympian talked to the media briefly before leaving the airport and climbing on top of a double-decker bus as it slowly traipsed through the streets of Lahore. The Mian Channu native waved to jubilant crowds of people who all came to catch a glimpse of the great national hero.

Among the government officials were Uzma Bukhari, Saad Rafique, Shaza Fatima, and Major General (retd) Muhammad Akram Sahi.

Arshad Nadeed created history at recent 2024 summer Olympics in Paris, France. Not only he won gold Olympic medal for Pakistan but also smashed several records.

The javelin-thrower won gold medal while he also broke a 118-year old Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres. The Olympian threw his javelin 88.72m, 79.40m, 84.87m and 91.79m in six rounds.

The Mian Channu native became the first Pakistani to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics after 40 years. He also ended a nearly 32-year drought of any Olympic medals for Pakistan.
