Pakistan drop in ICC team rankings for two formats


ICC rankings

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the updated team rankings for all three formats on Monday. Pakistan maintained their test ranking, but fell in both of the shorter formats.

Test rankings

While Australia lost two points, from 128 to 126, but retain the top spot in the Test Team Rnakings. Right beneath them sit England, who now have 113 points, surpassing both South Africa and India who have 111 and 105 points respectively.

In fifth sit New Zealand with a rating of 95, while Sri Lanka sits at sixth with a rating of 87. Pakistan maintain their eighth-place spot with a rating of 78. Bangladesh and Zimbabwe close out the top ten. While Ireland and Afghanistan are ranked higher than Zimbabwe based on rating, they ahvent played enough matches to be ranked. Ireland need to play one more match in the nexdt 12 months to be ranked, while Afghanistan need three.

ODI rankings

India maintain their top spot, increasing their rating from 122 to 124 after their fantastic Champions Trophy run. The team who fell short against them in the finals of the CT, New Zealand, now take the second spot with a rating of 109, surpassing Australia who are now third with the same rating as the Kiwis.

Sri Lanka’s fantastic form at home has earned them a rating of 104, overtaking Pakistan to take fourth place. The men in green are ranked fifth with the same rating as the Lions. South Africa, who lost four points, are now ranked sixth, while Afghanistan, who gained four points, are now ranked seventh. England are now eighth with a rating of 84. The West Indies and Bangladesh close out the top ten.

T20I rankings

India also maintained their top spot in the shortest format, despite second ranked Australia closing the gap ever so slightly. India have a rating of 271 while Australia are nine points behind with a rating of 262. England have the the number three spot, and are followed by New Zealand at fourth, West Indies at fifth, and South Africa at sixth.

Like in the ODI format, Sir Lanka overtook Pakistan, now ranked seventh, while the men in green fall to the eighth spot. Bangaldesh and Afghanistan close out the rankings.

The T20I rankings now feature 100 teams, 20 more than in 2019 when the rankings were launched. The rankings include all sides that have played at least eight matches over the past three years.
