Pakistan Football Federation approves amendments, FIFA lifts suspension

FIFA

KARACHI: The Bureau of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) Council has decided to lift the suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).

The international body’s decision was announced on Sunday (March 2), which reverses the suspension that was imposed on the PFF earlier this year on February 6, 2025. The suspension was imposed – and has now been lifted – with regards to the election of governing body of PFF.

FIFA was of the opinion that the PFF needs certain constitutional amendments that would ensure that elections within the PFF are fair and truly democratic. In February, FIFA committee warned that if PFF rejects the amendments proposal, “the electoral process, sporting development, and international participation could be suspended until the elected congress adopts the proposed amendments.” Later, the suspension came into play when PFF continued to refuse adoption of amendments.

However, in the meeting held on February 27, the PFF approved the amendments, and resultantly FIFA has also lifted the suspension.

As per news reports, with the suspension now lifted, all of the PFF’s membership rights – as defined in the FIFA statutes – have been reinstated. PFF representative and club teams will be able to participate in international competitions once again.

Now Pakistan’s footballers will be able to take part in the upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers as well. Pakistan is scheduled to play against Syria later this month.
